Matrix for SNA

The 6th week of the lecture, we has been introduced the method to analyse the Social Network activities. One of the approach is using Matrix that I had totally forgotten for a long while (oops). Whatever, thoughout the definition borrowed from Graph Theory and Matrix, we can denote the connections between social network participants in Matrix form. Let's use the simple version of below Social Network to explorer the idea

The corresponding Matrix will be

If we multiple this square matrix once, the result will be

From these multipled matrix, we can retrieve the distance between each connected nodes, that is any index with coefficient as "1" means, the path between these nodes will be 2. eg. From A to C, it will require 2 steps, same as from A to D.

  1. You explanation is quite clear.
However, In the last figure, I think the number in the right bottom corner should be '1' instead of '-'. D can be reach itself in two steps : D-B-D.

  3. Your blog is realy brevity but clear to explain the definition of SNA Matrix. Maybe sometime the pictures are more useful than words to explain a term.

  4. It seems that Multipled matrix is quite useful to count the the distance between each connected nodes.I learn a lot of things from your blog, thank you~

  5. Your blog is clear. I think it will be better if you explain every parts of the factors emerging in the matrix.

  6. A clear review of SNA matrix. It's briefer than examples with directional links between nodes.
